History [12 Jul 2009|12:52pm]
A typical case of "prom night dumpster baby", Brian was the product of an irresponsible couple of teenagers, who gave up the baby soon after he was born, leaving him only a name and a blanket. Until the age of thirteen, Brian lived in a small foster home in Texas, and was only one of a few that was a constant resident. Old lady Agusta did all she could to keep him there, as she took a liking to the boy from the start. She raised him from a baby, and enjoyed the upbeat and hopeful person he grew into, which was quite a contrast to most of the kids she had cared for. His quiet little life didn't last, though, after Agusta got sick and lost the house and all her children. Brian was whisked away to Rhoade Island, where he was moved around enough to not really get attached to another family.

Life started getting rough after leaving Texas, but Brian was determined not to let it cripple his dreams (which at that point were all over the place). By the time he was eighteen, he had finally decided he wanted to be an english professor, which would give him the ability to write a few books in his lifetime. Unfortunately, at eighteen the state stopped caring for him, and though he was employed and had a small savings, he was thrown into a world he couldn't quite stand in yet.

He already had his job at the restaurant since he was sixteen, but was forced to take on a second job at the car wash in order to continue his studies at the local college. It wasn't until an English class that taught him about the psychology behind words (an interesting class) did he even begin to think about the human brain. After that class, though, he couldn't get it off his mind. He signed up for a couple psycology classes, replacing his music ones, and barely had the time and money to keep up. After only two years of this, he was already beginning to burn out. One day, he finally told his sad story to a man that would listen (and it wasn't at a bar this time). A man named Pete Griffin struck up a conversation with the young boy while he washed his car, and struck a nerve in the man.

Pete told the boy to forget his second job, hop in the car and meet his family for dinner. He could stay with them and he could continue his studies for free in exchange for some babysitting and housework. Brian couldn't believe what he was hearing but figured, fuck it, life couldn't get worse than where he's already been. At the Griffins, he finished up his school year, and took the summer to really ponder his life. He decided that in the new stress free environment, he would try getting into the industry he really wanted to get into as a child: film. It only took that summer to realize that wasn't working either. After a long discussion with Lucy (Pete's wife, who Brian had gotten quite attached to), she made him realize he was more into the human brain than he thought, and might actually find a way to use his passion to help people.

He went back to school that next year, beginning with speech therapy and quickly switching his interest to mental illnesses. After finishing enough classes, he's ready to intern, and where better than Cheshire Crossing? Hey, he learned to swim by jumping onto the deep end first...
